Day 21 (16 August): Rest day

Having sacrificed last week’s rest day in order to have three shortish days just before the big Minehead climb, this second rest day was very welcome.

After sorting yesterday’s blog and some emails and admin, Bart and I went to look round Chepstow Castle, where we filmed a short video for Awards for Young Musicians (coming soon...)

Then we went to check out a couple of things about the walking route for the next couple of days. Here Bart’s local knowledge was extremely useful. One stretch of road which I was planning to walk along is closed and so an alternative path had to be checked out – we proved that a footpath exists at both ends, so I hope it exists all the way in between.

Meanwhile there is a new path from near Chepstow to Tintern, which is not on my map at all, and will save some distance and effort on Thursday.

We looked at the Severn Bridge from underneath, and stopped for a pub lunch in Aust.

Home for me to chat to son Tom on Whatsapp before a doze. Then more chat and messing about with the lovely dogs before Cristina’s return, supper (cooked by Bart) and an early night.

Tomorrow will be different - starting by walking right through Bristol and then later across the Severn Bridge. And the likelihood of proper rain.
